COMMAND

    inetd

SYSTEMS AFFECTED

    BSDI 2.0, 2.1, 3.0, 3.1

PROBLEM

Mark Schaefer found following. By using nmap port scanner you can
crash BSDI servers. The nmap command line used was (as a
    non-priviledged user):

        ./nmap -p 1-64000 -i <target host>

    Nmap can be obtained from:

        http://www.dhp.com/~fyodor/nmap

It also crashes when the Win 95/NT program portscan.exe (made by
7thsphere) is run against the host.

SOLUTION

BSDI suggested as workaround removing the "tcpmux" entry from the
/etc/inetd.conf file. Real fix is to apply patch M310-009.
