COMMAND

    ping

SYSTEMS AFFECTED

    Win 3.1

PROBLEM

"t00r of all devices" found following. It seems as thought the
dial up networking software provided by AT&T to its dialup
customers is unable to handle large ping packets sent to it.
When a large packet is sent, (used 5k) the windows environment
was dropped to the dos prompt and the system locked up. A reboot
was necessary. There is absolutely no error message. Just a
simple dump to the dos prompt and system lockup. I know that
probably hardly anyone uses Winblows 3.1, but i thought this
would be interesting to be thrown out.

SOLUTION

Upgrade Windows or if you like them do not use AT&T dial up net
    SW.
