COMMAND

    PPTP

SYSTEMS AFFECTED

    Win98

PROBLEM

Adam Carter found following. Test setup was PPTP server (sp5),
NT PPTP client (sp6a) and 98 PPTP client (with and without DUN
update) on the same subnet. Server is set to mandate MS
authentication and data encryption. IP only. File server on
    remote subnet.

Action was clients downloading file from remote file server. NT
client works as expected, DUN counter "bytes in" increments by
about file size and "bytes out" incremented a bit (for ACKs
    presumably).

98 client does not increment DUN "bytes in", "bytes out" is
incremented a bit for ACKs. Sniffer trace shows inbound data is
coming directly from the router (filter is set to 98 <-> any).

So we can conclude that on 98 data goes out throught the tunnel
and comes back via normal ip routing. Not exactly the secure(ish)
file transfer one would look for.

SOLUTION

    Nothing yet.
